December 12th 2023

 

Quay Harmony, held their annual Christmas Concert at Churston Church in December. The choir and their guests performed a varied selection of Seasonal Songs to a very appreciative audience. The Galliard Recorder Group played atmospheric seasonal music before and during the concert. Jude, accompanied by her husband Ian on guitar, enthusiastically entertained everyone with an audience participation song which they had composed themselves. A vocal quintet, formed from members of the choir sang an arrangement of the Little Drummer/ Peaceon Earth and Il Est Nes. Kim sang Chestnuts Roasting on an open Fire with great expression and Elle gave an enchanting performance of The Snowman.

The choir were conducted by their outstanding Musical Director, Jeremy Kenyon who also delighted the audience when he sang an Aria from The Messiah, Oh Thou That Telleth Good Tidings from Zion.  Accomplished pianist, Daphne Murphy played the keyboard for the choir, quintet and soloists.

Members of the Church community provided mulled wine and mince pies during the interval.

Proceeds from the concert will be for Churston Church and Choir funds.

 

 

Rehearsals will commence on January 16th, and are held at Brixham Rugby Club 7 - 9 pm on Tuesday evenings. If you are looking for a friendly choir to sing with then we would love to see you. Everyone is welcome to attend 2 free sessions before they decide to join.

August 27th â€‹

Quay Harmony was represented by Elle Parker, one of our members. She gave an outstanding performance and we are very proud of her.  The choir was promoted by other members of the choir.

 

August 12th Fun Music Workshop

This event was promoted by Quay Harmony,  led by their musical director Jeremy Kenyon and ably assisted by Daphne Murphy.

This fun session was held at Brixham Rugby Club and songs included  an upbeat and rhymical arrangement of Ain't No Mountain High Enough and Oh Happy Day. At the end of the session we performed to a small audience and enjoyed a cream.

Feedback from the day was very positive and we are hoping to repeat this again next year.

June - Summer Concert

We sang a varied repertoire ranging from compilations from The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misersbles to Don't stop me now by Queen. Some members of the choir provided solo and ensemble items. The choir also welcomed for the first time a very talented trio of folk musicians called The Sea Hounds.  The concert was well attended  and enhanced by much needed cold refreshments needed on this summer evening provided by the Church community.

Christmas Concert 2022

Our annual Christmas Concert at Churston Church in December was attended by a capacity audience. The choir performed a varied selection of Seasonal Songs to a very appreciative audience. The Galliard Recorder Group played atmospheric seasonal music before and during the concert. The choir welcomed a a very talented local based group called Cloud 9 who performed a delightful set with an unusual combination of instruments, harp, bass guitar and recorder. Members of the choir also performed seasonal solos, duets and small ensemble pieces. Poems were read by Alasdair Anderson and Yvonne Brewer. Jude and her husband Ian entertained everyone with an audience participation song which they had. At the end of the concert our outstanding MD Roni, who is standing down as the choir’s MD, was presented with a Theatre voucher as a token of our appreciation for what she has done for the choir.A presentation was also made to Daphne. Members of the Church community provided refreshments during the interval. Proceeds from the concert will be for Churston Church and Choir funds. The choir are pleased to announce that they have appointed a new Musical Director, Jeremy Kenyon, who will be joining them in the New Year.

 

In September 2021, face to face rehearsals commenced at our new rehearsal venue , The Rugby Club Brixham. It's great to be back  singing together. We have welcomed three new members this term and we are still looking to increase our numbers.

Throughout the pandemic Quay Harmony continued to make music together. We met as a group on  Zoom led by our superb Musical Director Roni. It was good to meet to improve our vocal technique and to refine songs in our repertoire. During the rehearsals we learn our individual part and sang along to the backing tracks. In December 2020 the choir  held a virtual social in the form of a festive quiz. All members dressed up in festive attire and raised a toast wishing everyone A Happy and Healthy 2021.

January 2020

After a very successful Christmas concert at Brixham Library, we are happy to announce our new term commences next week under the directorship of the wonderful Veronica Layne who happily agreed to become our new musical director last term.

​

December 2019

December was a very busy time for us  at Quay Harmony.  Our first engagement of the festive season was held at Brixham Library where we were joined by the Torbay Galliard Recorder Ensemble. The concert was a complete sell out and from feedback received was deemed to be huge success. It raised a substantial amount of money for The Friends of Brixham Library.

​

Our next engagement was a performance at The Bird Cage , Brixham which was followed by the Choirs Christmas social.

​

The Last engagement was at Briham Yacht Club where mulled wine, mince pies and festive carols were enjoyed  by all.

​

February 2019

​

In February the choir sang in the entrance to  Dartmouth Steam Train, Paignton  to welcome and entertain passengers boarding the steam for an evening of music and magic in aid of Rowcroft Hospice.

 

 

Activities in December 2018

​

The choir presented a concert at Lupton House of Christmas music and song on two consecutive nights at the beginning of December. Prior to the concert pre performance music was provided by the Torbay Galliard Recorder Consort. Guest clarinettist was Adrienne Knight, who played a selection of classical and contempory pieces. The Musical Director of the choir performed O Holy Night by Adolf Adams. There were also Christmas songs sung by a trio and quartet made up of members of the choir. The raffle from both evenings raised money for the choir's charity of this year which was the Trinity Foundation Trust. It was a very pleasant evening and well received by the audiences.

The choir joined together for a Christmas meal at Brixham Yacht Club where they sang the following week for the Yacht Club annual Christmas Carol Service.

 

 

 

Quay Harmony Ladies Choir

​

Singing at the Music & Magic Dartmouth Steam Railway event, in support of Rowcroft on 14th February was a new, exciting experience for the choir and we wish to thank the people who made these lovely comments on Facebook.

“Sat in your compartment for the first section of the journey tonight, enjoyed every second, a fabulous night.”

“We were sat in your last compartment and loved every song. Thank you for making Valentine’s Day special.”

We look forward to singing at more Music & Magic events: at their Summer Singing event and at a Fireworks event in Galmpton on 1st November.

 

We are honoured to be singing with both of Torbay’s marvellous Male Voice Choirs this year. The choir will be hosting a joint concert with Torbay Police and Community Choir at St Andrews Church Paignton on 16th June and will be guests at a concert with Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir, also at St Andrews, on 20th October.

We apologise to anyone who was looking forward to joining us at the singing workshop on Saturday 27th January. We decided to cancel because there were not many pre-bookings. We will hold other workshops in the future.

 

Prospective new members are welcome to visit any of our rehearsals on most Tuesday evenings at URC, Bolton Cross between 7pm and 9pm

Firework Display at Galmpton Touring Park

   

On Thursday 2nd November the choir joined two other local choirs on stage at the first Galmpton firework displayat the Touring Park

St Mary's Flower Festival Concert

 

Saturday 9th September saw the choir performing alongside Church members at a bi annual  concert in St Mary's Church,  Brixham to celebrate the end of the flower and craft exhibition. This was a very enjoyable and memorable evening.

​

A Fun Workshop with Quay Harmony           

 

Our first workshop took place Tuesday 1st August. It was well supported and people travelled from as far away as Chudleigh to join in the fun evening of music making led by our resident conductor Jane Anderson Brown. Positive feedback was given about the  evening and further workshops are planned for the future.

​

 

Summer Concert at Lupton House            

 

The ballroom at Lupton was the perfect setting for our annual  Summer concert. on Friday 23rd June . People enjoyed an evening of music and song with a guest appearance of a talented young local flautist.

​

Chester Male Voice Choir

 

On Thursday 1st June Quay Harmony hosted a joint concert with Chester Male Voice Choir at St Andrew's Church , Paignton.  This was our first attemp at hosting a visiting choir and the occasion was a great success. Monies raised on the night were donated to Rowcroft . After the concert the choirs retired to the Paignton Rugby Club for refreshments.

St Mary's  Church, Churston

​

The choir entertained an appreciative audience on 6th May, the proceeds of which went to the church fund. The choir's repertouire ranged from Panis Angelicus by Cesar Frank to It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing). Jane Anderson Brown, their conductor, sang a selection of Spring songs. Ewan Gribben gave two sterling performances on his Alto Saxophone and was loudly applauded for his performance. The concert was followed by afternoon tea and cakes.

 

Rotary Charity Concert

The Choir performed alongside Brixham Town Band and Brixham College Big Band on the stage of Brixham Theatre to raise money for local charities. The concert was well supported.

 

Wedding at Landscove.

​

On a sunny April afternoon the Choir were delighted to sing at the wedding of a son of a Choir member. After the ceremony the Choir were invited to partake of drinks and canapes at a venue a short country walk from the church. During this time we were entertained by The Bristol University Chinese Troupe who played and performed a traditional Chinese Wedding Ritual featuring a Chinese Lion.

It was an emotional and memorable occasion.

Busy Time Ahead For Brixham's Quay Harmony. (Article which appeared in April's edition of the Brixham Signal)

Quay Harmony, Brixham based Ladies Choir are busy preparing for their forthcoming Spring and Summer Events. They are directed by their Musical Director the talented Jane Anderson Brown.
They start the season by singing at a Wedding Service in Landscove Chapel, Totnes and on the 22nd April they are participating in the Rotary Club of Brixham's Annual Charity Concert which is being held at the Brixham Theatre. On May 6th Quay Harmony and guests are performing at St Mary the Virgin Church Churston in the afternoon at one of the Churches monthly concerts.
Also in May some of the members will be joining forces with the Torbay Police Male Voice Choir on a trip to Berlin where they will be performing at numerous concert venues.
A first for the choir is arranging a joint concert with a visiting choir, Chester M.V.C. This concert will take place at St Andrews Church Paignton on 1st June.
The choirs Annual Summer Concert is being held at Lupton House on June 23rd.

Quay Harmony welcomes New Musical Director. 

​

Jane Anderson-Brown took over as the musical director of Quay Harmony in September 2016. She has had a vast amount of experience in musical directorship in the Torbay area. She holds a Masters Degree in music and is a qualified teacher of voice, flute, saxophone and clarinet. She is also a peripatetic music teacher in a number of Torbay schools.

Quay Harmony's Annual Concert Delights Audience  in July 2016

​

Quay Harmony held their Annual Summer Concert at Lupton House in July.  Their guest conductor and soloist was Jane Anderson Brown who led the choir in a wide selection of songs  ranging from Opera, Film, Musicals and Popular Classics.They were accompanied on piano by Daphne Murphy. 

 The choir opened the concert with Nkosi Sikelel I Africa which they sang with confidence and feeling.                                                          

  Guests of the choir included Zak Olsen who  sang Panis Angelicus and The Writings on the Wall, two contrasting  pieces which were sung with assurance and maturity, Kim Wilson, a member of the choir who  sang with a pure tone an Aria from The Marriage of Figaro which astounded the audience and  regular guests, Harping Mad who delighted the audience  with a selection of music for Harp, Recorder and Voice.                                                                                                                                                                                         

  The money raised from the Raffle, organised by Sue Lund,  will go to the choir’s chosen charity for this year, Shoalstone Pool Ltd.                                                                                                                                                                                              

  Quay Harmony were also the special  guest choir at The Brixham Orpheus Male Voice choir’s Annual Concert held in All Saints Church Brixham. 

Ron Burrington conducted both choirs on this occasion.

 Brixham Does Care Our Charity for 2015

​

Quay Harmony,a Brixham based ladies choir chose Brixham Does Care as their charity for 2015/2016.
Janet Pettit, chairperson of the choir presented a cheque for £500 to Martyn Paddon, chairman of Brixham Does Care.
The choir rehearse every Tuesday evening at The Edge, Bolton Street, Brixham and are currently seeking to increase the membership of the choir. They are currently rehearsing for their Annual Summer Concert to be held at Lupton House and as guests of The  Brixham Orpheus Male Voice Choir on July 16th. The choir's chosen charity for this year is Brixham's Shoalstone Pool.
